Spring Planting Tour

This Spring Trunnell's Farm Tours will be digging into the exciting world of farming! As soon as the children get off the bus they will begin a learning experience at Trunnell's without even realizing that the farm is a "lesson". From the vegetable garden and earth worms to our comprehensive lesson plans, we will educate and entertain your class as we discover different vegetables in our demonstration garden, as well as what goes on day to day at our real working farm.

The students will learn what their food looks like and where it comes from before it gets to their plate. On your visit your students will also have a chance to view the retail market and experience where and how the vegetables get to the market, learn about what happens on a regular day in the life of a farmer and even a little farming history.

What's Included in Your Field Trip

Hop aboard the Spring Planting Hayride

The hayride will tour a real working farm and and tour the farm during the growing season to experience some true homegrown fun.

Meet our Farmers

Students learn how our crops develop from seed to fruit; understand what role bees play in growing food and learn what food products are made from the crops grown on the farm. A walk through the farm market to experience "hands on" how a farm market operates.

Plant Your Own Seeds

We will help each student plant seeds (watermelon, squash, cucumber, cantaloupe) in a small container to take home and grow in their own backyard. The students will also learn what that seed needs in order to grow into a healthy plant.

Playtime in the Fun-Acre

The Fun-Acre is a block of land next to the market that provides bushels of fun. Educational and entertaining activities abound in the Fun-Acre. The rope maze, straw maze, corn pit, corn hole, straw pyramid, the Trunnell Tunnel Slide, and more will leave smiles on everyone throughout their "Absolutely Fresh" experience.

Lunchtime & Picnic Areas

Picnic areas are available for your use. We also offer a farm-fresh lunch for a fee of $3.00 per student. Lunch includes: sandwich, chips, fruit, and choice of milk or apple cider. The farm-fresh lunch must be ordered at the at the time of tour reservation.

Farm Market

The Farm Market will be open for everyone in your group to enjoy! Students will have a chance to purchase a souvenir in our gift shop before departing. Students, parents, and chaperones will have the opportunity to purchase unique Kentucky Proud items before departing.

Spring Tour Fees

Spring Tour Cost: $5.00/person (age 2 and up)
Teachers & Bus Drivers: Free Admittance (does not include plant your own seeds)

Farm-Fresh Lunch: $3/person

Spring Tour Reservations

The Spring Planting Tour is available April 15th through May 25th. Tours can be scheduled for 9AM or 11AM and typically last 1-1/2 to 2 hours. The picnic area and The Fun-Acre will be available immediately following the tour for your group to use. You will have 30-40 minutes to use these areas before you depart. Don't forget that the Market will be also be open for your group to browse through.

Cancellations

Out of respect for other tour groups, and to maintain booking flexibility, cancellations need to be made within two weeks of the visit. If cancellations are not made within this time frame they are severely damaging in that another class is deprived of a trip. Therefore, cancellation less than 2 weeks in advance or "no-shows" will result in a charge of $75.00.

Cancellations need to be person to person--messages left on voice mail are NOT acceptable. In case of rain, Trunnell's will make any cancellation decisions the morning of the trip. Please call that morning if you have any questions. If cancellation is due to weather, the above fee will be waived for all cancellations, and Trunnell's will be happy to assist in rescheduling your tour.
